Nicholas Poppe, oroszul ill. oroszkodón Николай Николаевич Поппе (mindez kis erőlködéssel latin betűkre ültetve (romanizálva) Nikolay Nikolayevich Poppe) 1897 Aranyasszony (augusztus) hava 8.-án, az akkori elmaradott juliánuszos orosz időszámítás szerint Áldás (július) hava 27.-én született.

A német Poppét gyakran emlegetik „orosz nyelvész”-ként, amiből annyi az igaz, hogy orosz állampolgárnak született és jóideig az is maradt. (E kötelmétől Sztálin terrorának sikerült Őt végképp elvadítania.)
Németes Nikolaus Poppe névalakja mellett gyakran emlegetik N.N. Poppe alakban is tudományos közleményekben. Legalább ennyire hiteles Őt „amerikai nyelvész”-ként emlegetni, hiszen ahogyan az anyanyelve is, a lelke mélyén Ő mindig is német volt !

Sok irígye igyekezett Őt a bukott német rendszerrel meg annak bizonyos bűneivel összemos(kol)ni, de a tiszta tudomány az ilyen fertőző kommunista propagandától meg az internáci gyűlöletbeszédtől függetlenül (is) létezik. A propagandisták meg a 3/3-asok magukért beszélnek. De a Tények is magukért beszélnek :

Nikolaus Poppe volt évtizedeken át a mongol nyelvek legnagyobb szakértője kerek e világon.

Az Altaji nyelvcsaládba sorolta a Mongol Nyelveken meg a Türök Nyelveken túl a Tunguz Nyelveket is.
Poppe nyitott volt a Korjai nyelv Altaji betagolására is, de mindig hangsúlyozta, hogy erre jóval kevesebb abizonyíték.

1991 Nap (június) hava 8.-án húnyt el 93 évesen egy igazán gazdag és tartalmas élet tanulságait hagyva ránk örökül (Seattle-ben, Washington Államban).

Poppe, Moğol dilleri ve Moğol, Türk ve Tunguz dillerinin ait olduğu varsayımsal (ve tartışmalı) Altay dil ailesinde önde gelen bir uzmandı. Poppe, Korecenin Altay dil ailesine dahil edilmesine açık fikirliydi, ancak Moğolca, Türkçe ve Tunguzca’nın dahil edilmesi için olan kanıtların Korecenin dahil edilmesi için olan kanıtlardan daha güçlü olduğunu düşünüyordu.
