Az anglonáci genny terrora fröcsög a Világra, ránk erőltette a Halloween-t (is).
Mindenütt megy ma az eszetlen halovínkodás (Sz.) … Mégis alig ténfereg néhány épeszű is a mi magyar roncsországunkban, aki még-már legalább tudná e beteg ünnep (nevének) eredetét…
Az angol Hallowmas a közismert Christmas-ra rímel. Nem véletlenül…
Két „misés” Szent Nap ! A Hallowmas előestéje pedig a Halloween.
A Magyarnak persze a halovínkodás helyett sokkal jobban állna a (Sz.)
De lássuk csak a Napját !
ALL SAINTS’ DAY also known as All Hallows’ Day, the Feast of All Saints, the Feast of All Hallows, the Solemnity of All Saints, and Hallowmas …
The season of Hallowmas, having been frequently mild, has been, from time immemorial, proverbially called “All-hallown summer,” i. e., late summer. (From Folk-lore of Shakespeare by Thomas Firminger Thiselton-Dyer)
Now wasna that a bonnie and fearful sight to see beneath the light of the Hallowmas moon? (From Folk-Lore and Legends Scotland by Anonymous)
Short for „All-hallows’ mass” (ealra hālgena mæsse in Old English), where hallow means saint and -mas refers to a church service or mass.
short for Middle English Alholowmesse, from Old English ealra halgena mæsse, literally, all saints’ mass
The first known use of Hallowmas was in the 14th century
Hallowmas is an older name for All Saints’ Day, a Christian holiday in honor of all the Christian saints. It originated as a holiday of the Catholic Church, but it is also observed by some other Christians. The day after All Saints’ Day is All Souls’ Day, a Christian holiday of solemn prayer for all dead persons. Other names for the day include Allhallows and Allhallowmas.
The night before was known as Allhallows Eve, which is where the word Halloween comes from.
1375–1425; late Middle English; short for Allhallowmas
